A dried mushroom is a bit of a misnomer, can be dark brown or light. They are usually speckled. They have an enjoyable flavor and take up the flavor of other ingredients. It is also a good supply of riboflavin and niacin and contains no fat or cholesterol.
Pleurotus ostreatus, the oyster mushroom, oyster fungus, or hiratake in japanese, is a common edible mushroom.
